Grants are available for community based organisations in the UK which have ‘creative, fresh’ approaches to get older people, especially those from disadvantaged communities, involved in social action.

Comic Relief has launched this new £1.5 million fund “to engage older people aged 65 and over from ‘harder to reach’ groups to get involved in opportunities which use their skills, knowledge and experience to contribute to their communities”.

The funding is for projects which put older people at the centre of the work, designing and developing activities or opportunities which meet their needs, interests and priorities.

Comic Relief is looking for ‘creative, fresh approaches’ and not for standard activities.

To be eligible for funding, applicants must:

  • Focus on their local community, although they may choose to work with national or regional partners.
  • Have a formal, signed constitution which outlines their social purpose, demonstrates that any profit or assets are used for social purposes and shows that an asset lock is in place.
  • Already coordinate activities by and for older people that can demonstrate a need to engage with a ‘harder to reach’ group of older people, or an organisation which already works with disadvantaged older people that wants to bring a new twist or approach to their work.

Applications will also be accepted from partnerships.

Proposals are welcome for between £40,000 and £80,000 for up to three years for work in the UK.

We are keen to receive applications from organisations based in the community in which they are working.

We will be open for proposals from 17 July 2017 to midday 29 August 2017. We aim to inform all applicants of the final decision in January 2018”.
