Welcome to 2018 – looking back at 2017

Greetings from the Broadway Enterprise – we hope 2018 has found you well and a very happy Christmas was had.

As the start of a New Year brings with it, new hopes, adventures and paths as well as new beginnings, we also bring with us the recollections of our ‘new-ish’ but established projects events and achievements from last year.

Waiting for that pizza?

There was a fantastic turnout for the Muddy Boots Christmas event, which was held in the chilly but cosy garden – largely down to the  gathering’s warm and festive mood, but made somewhat easier, however, by the heat roaring from the glowing chiminea, the drifting smell of roasting chestnuts from the barbecue and with a cup of homemade mulled wine, warming the hands and taste buds alike.

The gardens newly acquired pizza oven was a great success too! Everybody knows Christmas is not Christmas without pizza. Hahaha! but joking aside, we are really looking forward to being able to bake many more delicious pizzas and many more events to come.

There was also hand-wreath and table decorations being made in the greenhouse – which will have wonderfully graced any door or Christmas day table!

The main event was the time we spent welcoming the ‘Holy Family‘ (Posada) into the garden, which also was a poignant reminder of who and why we really celebrate Christmas. This was accompanied by the traditional sound of carols being heartily sung by young and old together and all sounded beautiful!

All in all a very lovely day was had and there was even a fluttering of snow too, just to add to the Christmas feel!

Building our new patio

The New year does indeed bring ‘new paths’- literally in this case, as work has already been completed on laying new pathways around the garden and a really useful patio area.

One of the gardens founder volunteers and his dad, have professionally dodged the rain and freezing conditions to get the work finished and ready in super-quick time for the up-coming events already planned for this new and exciting year ahead in the Muddy Boots garden.

  • Firstly we have a ‘muddy marmalade’ making session – to be held at 67 Branston Road on January

26th, starting at 10 am. All equipment and produce will be provided and jars of the marmalade can be purchased at the end of the session.

  • The Big Garden Bird-watch will be happening 27th-29th of January. You can join in this event in your own garden too – bird watching is good for mental health, as well as discovering which kinds of birds are visiting our gardens.
