The Big Lunch in July

We celebrated the Big Lunch in the Muddy Boots garden on Saturday July 1st.

A Muddy Boots volunteer works in the garden…

The sun shone, the Muddy team greeted visitors with a drink and showed them around the garden. We had good conversations and made new friends.

The gardening team showed a great diversity of talent in growing and preparing food- fresh organic salad came straight from the garden. We spread out into the garden next door for lunch and four barbecues kept everyone well fed with hot food to supplement the full tables of salads and desserts.

Visitors included the staff of MIND, local friends and neighbours and people who had found our event on the Muddy Boots Facebook page. There was a lovely cultural mix with people coming whose home countries were Somalia, Hong Kong, Pakistan, Latvia and Moldova; in all, 56 adults and nine children took part.

Some people made donations, others bought vegetables or Broadway books and we had a new volunteer for Thursday gardening.

We sent a letter of thanks to Tesco who had given us discounted food for the barbecues.  An all-round success!
